I Can't Resist...

I am an email junkie.

At work, I have my office email and my gmail opened all the time. When I see that I have new mail, I can not resist the urge to drop whatever I am doing to check it. I am doubly excited to check my gmail, because it will not be work releated.

However, I am not so excited to see the dreaded light on my phone indicating that I have voicemail. I am relieved when it is only my wife calling.

Yeah, I don't like my phone ringing either, but that is mostly because my resume somehow got out to a bunch of consulting recruiters. I don't like having to take that sort of call at work.

I haven't heard of being uneasy about voicemail. I try not to leave my email open at work, but I still check about 2x a day.

As you could probably tell, I have more time at work to be on the computer than my previous jobs. I think sometimes I would be really bored if I didn't have the internet.
I couldn't help but to notice you have been posting what music you have been listening to. I'm always curious to what other people are listening to.

Right now I'm listening to REM's "New Adventures In Hi Fi" as I've been waiting for the new album to be released.

I am not uneasy about voice mail. I think it is a pain in the butt. Usually, voicemail means somebody wants you to do something. You have to take notes and listen to the message umpteen times to get it down correctly. And besides that it takes like 3 minutes to access voice mail by hiting the voice mail key and then hit the # button and then enter a passcode and then press 2 and then press 0 and then press *3 to erase. It's all a chore.

Another thing that's a chore is having to listen to the message (or at least part of it) again because someone said their number real fast once on your voicemail. That's one of my pet peaves. Do people have a problem with either saying the number slowly or repeating it?

So true, so true!

...don't get me wrong, I love to leave a voice message, but I feel that when I do I am always talking fast - like there is a time limit to get my message in before the beep goes off and you wonder if you should still talk, hang-up, or call back.

I used to dread listening to voicemails at work also. It usually meant that I did something wrong, or someone wants me to do something.
