266 - February music

Lily Allen - Alright, Still

This purchase was a pure guilty pleasure. It is pop music and the lyrics are very surface level about boys and clubs and dissing each other. The music is pure fun as it is a mixture of pop, raggae, ska with horns, pianos, and I am guessing various samples. I like the sound of her voice. She's British and has a very heavy accent. I first heard of her last summer and I don't remember how. It was on myspace. I heard she is a product of myspace popularity. She had many fans before her album was released. *Careful* too much candy can make you sick.

Peter Bjorn and John - Wrtier's Block

I know, instantly you think of Peter Paul and Mary or that their intials are PB&J, but this is another group coming out of Sweden. (You know my love for El Perro Del Mar.) I have heard some critics arleady talking about this being the album of the year. All three guys sing and take leads in singing and this allows their music to have a range in styles - from shoegazer to indiepop to folk. It's good fun music.

The Postmarks

I heard a snippet of one of their songs on NPR and I had to find their music. This album will make a great soundtrack to the spring and summer with sunny and breezy vocals and music that will delight fans of the Innocence Mission, the Sundays, and Sixpence none the richer.

I did not buy this collection of Over the Rhine music, because I already have all of their albums. But with most collections or greatest hits, a band will usually include a new song. Since Over the Rhine is not U2, their new song was included as a single purchase from iTunes. So I bought their new song "Last Night on Earth Again" for 99 cents.

Also, on the bands website they have an mp3 of the month for sale for 99 cents. For February the mp3 was "Before We Sleep" which is a new reworking of the song "Miles" from Besides.

I did not buy this Joy Electric CD either. Well actually, I own the 7" vinyl only version of this 4 song e.p. But recently they re-released this as compact disc and added two song. Luckily, since Joy Electric is not U2, I could buy those extra two songs at iTunes: "ether or" and "wireless, from london."
