December music

Justice - "cross"
Listen here.

No, this is not the christian rock band from the '80's. I could swear I had an old Justice cassette with an album cover that featured a drawing of muscular viking type of guy with a big sword that just cut the head off of a huge snake.

This version of Justice is a couple of French guys and the music is like an electro-funk. I think they marked the beginnning of the backlash to the minimal, cold sounds of laptop electronica and brought back to the big beats of electronic dance music. The music is messy, real messy, and is sample heavy with a lot of feel and flavor of the urban '70's. (I have no idea what I am talking about.) I think I heard one music critic refer to them as "heavy metal of electronic music."

A Familyre Christmas - Vol. 1
This was a free download album from the record label Sounds Familyre. The label is home to Danielson and Sufjan Stevens. Basically, they had each of their artist record a christmas song, traditional or original, an made a new song availble each day leading up to Christmas. The collection is fun and quirky.

Only two albums? I had a productive month since I completed my Over the Rhine collection last month. I will post shortly but last week my computer at home crashed and I'm in the process of buying a new one.

Really, it was only one album that I purchased since the other one was free.

Yes, December is the month that I should be thinking of others, so with all the gifts being purchased and limited funds, I really shoud spend $$ on CD's. Plus, there is the hope that I may get some cash for future purchases.

Anyway, December is a horrible month for new music. There are literally no good new releases. There are some albums on my list that I will look into.

Yes, the outlook for January is going to be strong. I am off to a good start.

Congrats on finishing your OTR collection. I have everything and have enjoyed them for years. i hope you have many good years ahead of you. I love their early albums.

Heavy metal of electronic music? That would explain the cover. I'll listen to it in a bit to see if I agree.

I'm not saying you can't write, but I can't follow much of your blog. I think the music community speaks in it's own dialect. I never understand BB either when he talks music. I am sure they are good albums though.

dUST,
The Justice songs on their myspace really don't do the album justice, because I think they are playing several remixes they did for other peoples songs.

Wawa,
don't worry. I can't follow much of my blog either. Usually, I crank them out in like 15 minutes during lunch without giving any thought about what I am writing. I just go for it. This is very much the opposite of Dust's blog. Basically, with these post on music, I am saying "here are the albums I picked up last month."
