That's because it allows it to be more paint-like, like calligraphy.

That said, practicing Chinese calligraphy on napkins might be superior to normal paper. A new discovery....

I always thought it was harder to write on napkins. I think it is that paper and napkins require different styles of writing.

No, you are right that it is harder in the sense that you could rip the napkin.

You also have to use the right type of pen to enjoy the fun. Ballpoint does not work - it has to be a felt type of some kind.

The "style of writing" doesn't matter once you learn control of pen.

Regular paper is more slippery compared to the napkin. That's why it is fun to write on, because of the friction.

My handwriting doesn't do well with felt tip, ink type pens. Though they are fun to write with. Plus from my years as a journalist, I relied on ballpoint because if you spill on it or drop it in a puddle, it's still readable. I've enjoyed the occasional napkin doodle though.
